Kuehlewind, Ed."],"format":["ASCII","HTML"],"page_count":"13","pub_status":"INFORMATIONAL","status":"INFORMATIONAL","source":"IAB","abstract":"The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) through its IP Stack Evolution\r\nprogram, the Internet Society, and the Swiss Federal Institute of\r\nTechnology (ETH) Zurich hosted the Stack Evolution in a Middlebox\r\nInternet (SEMI) workshop in Zurich on 26-27 January 2015 to explore\r\nthe ability to evolve the transport layer in the presence of\r\nmiddlebox- and interface-related ossification of the stack. The goal\r\nof the workshop was to produce architectural and engineering guidance\r\non future work to break the logjam, focusing on incrementally\r\ndeployable approaches with clear incentives to deployment both on the\r\nendpoints (in new transport layers and applications) as well as on\r\nmiddleboxes (run by network operators). This document summarizes the\r\ncontributions to the workshop and provides an overview of the discussion\r\nat the workshop, as well as the outcomes and next steps identified by\r\nthe workshop.
